PMDG Forum Rules

1) SIGN YOUR POSTS. Since 1997, we have asked users to sign their real name, first and last, to all posts in the PMDG forum. We do this in order to keep conversations personal and familiar. You took the time to be here, we want to get to know you. This is one of the few rigid rules that we enforce regularly. We do so because we feel that forums in which users must engage one another personally are generally warmer, more collegial and friendly. Posts that are unsigned will be quietly removed without comment by the moderators, so to make your life easy- we recommend enabling your forum signature so that you never need to remember. Do this by clicking the username pull-down at the top right, then selecting "User Settings." You will find the signature editor on the ACCOUNT tab, about half way down the page. Look for "Edit Post Signature." Be sure to click the "Show Signatures" box.

2) BE NICE. We are all simmers here and no matter our differences of opinion, we share a common love of aviation, computing and simulation. Treat everyone else in the forum with respect even when you disagree. If someone frustrates you, walk away from the conversation or ask for a moderator to get involved. Speaking of Moderators, they prefer not to be treated as "The Thought Police" but if any behavior infringes on the enjoyment of another user or is otherwise considered to be unacceptable in the moderator's judgment, it will be addressed in keeping with our view of ensuring that this forum remains a healthy environment for all simmers.

3) BE LAWFUL: Any behavior that infringes upon the law, such as discussion or solicitation of piracy, threats, intimidation or abuse will be handled unsympathetically by the moderators. Threats and intimidation may, at the moderator's discretion, be provided to law enforcement for handling.

4) BE FACTUAL: When you post, always be factual. Moderators will remove posts that are determined not to be factually accurate.

5) RESPECT COPYRIGHTS: Posting of copyrighted material such as flight manuals owned by Boeing or various airlines is not allowed in this forum. If you have questions related to copyrighted material, please contact a forum moderator for clarification.

6) RESPECT PMDG: We love to hear what you like about our products. We also like to hear what you think can be improved, or what isn't working. Please do tell us and we will always treat your feedback with value. Just be sure to treat the team respectfully, as they do put a significant amount of effort into building and maintaining these great simulation products for you.

7) RESPECT PMDG DEVELOPERS: All of the developers will spend some time here. Given the ratio of developers-to-users, it simply isn't possible for us to answer every post and private message individually. Please know that we do try to read everything, but developer workload is simply too high to manage personal contact with tens-of-thousands of users simultaneously. In most cases, members of the development team will stick to conversations in the forum and will not answer private messages.

8) RESPECT OTHER DEVELOPERS: PMDG has always advocated for a strong development community and we have many friends within this community. Every developer offers something unique that helps to make the simming community larger and more vibrant. We insist that you treat our friends respectfully.

9) RESPECT MODERATORS: Moderators have a tough job, and none of them enjoy having to stomp out negativity. If a moderator has to weigh in to keep a thread peaceful, please respect that effort and refrain from giving the moderator any grief.

10) If you require official support for any of our products please open a support ticket through the support portal, https://support.precisionmanuals.com

11) This forum is designed primarily as a vehicle for the PMDG development team to interact with our customers, and for customers to interact with one another in a manner that is positive, supportive and assists in the general advancement of understanding the simulation and helping to make this and future simulations better. Any other use of this forum is not permitted, including but not limited to discussion of pricing policies, business practices, forum moderating policies, advertising of non-PMDG products, promotion of events, services or products that are not approved in advance by PMDG or any other topic deemed unacceptable by any forum administrator

[20NOV19] PMDG 737NGXu Update to Build 9961 is now available

    Captains,

Tonight we have pushed another update for users of PMDG 737NGXu that includes a number of code/logic/behavior fixes, but is mostly targeted toward performance improvement.

During the past week we have been going through much of the data that we have collected since release in an effort to understand why some users have perfect performance and others have varying degrees of poor performance. This has had us analyzing everything from drivers to hardware to shaders to add-ons, and it did identify a few areas where we could make changes in order to further optimize NGXu in order to reduce the load we have on the processor.

This update brings to you the results of our research to date, as we felt that we were seeing enough improvement that it would be beneficial to roll it out to you rather than having you wait while we keep digging down some other areas that we think are worth investigating.

Something that did not make it into the change list that should have: We have added an option in the FMS OPTIONS menu that will allow you to reduce the update draw rate on the EFB moving map. This is an experiment, because we know that drawing the EFB, then subjecting that screen to HDR correction, then having cockpit lighting interact with those results, which then have to be recomputed and rendered once more, can have an impact on FPS. We thought it might be interesting to see if, instead of drawing that screen each tick we skip a few frames in the middle and see if that alleviates a burden from some with mid-range hardware. We played around with it and thought it was interesting, so we figured we would pass it along as an experiment to see if it helps...

This, along with many of the other changes we made this round will show some improvement for most users, we think.

This update can be picked up via Operations Center 2.0, following the same procedure as the previous update. Simply go to Aircraft and Liveries in the OC2.0 app, then click Aircraft Updates.

    Thanks everyone,
    Our work continues!

Just a quick note that this update wipes any installed liveries with no repair option in the OC. Not a major issue but if you've got something in there you don't want to loose make sure you back it up.

You mean together with equipment configuration? Wow thanks for heads up.

PMDG, you really should put information like this in the announcement if it indeed is the case.

Seems like a rushed update, couple of logic mistakes in there. Tickets sent.

Same feeling here, giving this update a "mostly targeted toward performance improvement", well...
performence wise I didn't have problem from start, so IDK, but it's logic step for PMDG to fix the problems that affects most people before get the hand on deep system stuff.

Maybe I am stupid, and i have checked the manuals, is the moving map now included in the EFB? in then case, how do i activate it? and yes, i have navigraph payware version.

and thank you for the update

Not quite - go into the OCv2 livery manager, down the bottom, scan for orphaned textures, select each item the scan finds and one at a time select 'repair'.

That only repaired the liveries I installed from the OC. My custom liveries I made are gone and will need to be re-added manually (note to self: make PTP backups next time).

                Hi there,

performance worse than before. Ran very smooth before, didn't change any settings at all It is nearly unflybale. FPS going down to 10 in cruise. Have had stable 35-40 before....

                            Sounds strange...
It would be bad QA if the updated files would be different than those found in a fresh installer.

I am going to try a fresh install later from fresh download, but unfortunately i have had a fps loss compared to update 1. It seems to be only when looking through windscreen. Not in rain though. Maybe rainmaker? Its a shame, because it was working great for me from release.

I took the plunge and re-installed the PMDG 737NGXu, just in order to check if I would see a further improvement.
But performance with the updated vs the full re-install is the same.

                                FPS are way better now.
At Aerosoft Frankfurt (EDDF) RWY 25L I get 22-24 FPS with defaut weather set to clear weather at 12:00, so it´s now on par withh all my other addons, including the PMDG 747 QOTSII and 777.

At night, same position, and with all lights, except those called "Flood..." and Dome light turned on (½ way settings), I still see around 20 FPS.
With Flood lights and Dome lights turned on (½ way setting / Dim) I see around 16 FPS.

Turning on the EFB Airport map, makes FPS flucturate more, but still feels smooth. This is with options set to 12 FPS for the Airport Map. It seems flucturations lessens with lower FPS set for the Airport Map, but it might be placebo.

                                Note my modest system.

This is most of the cause. There's only so much we can do to alleviate performance issues while still using current methods like dynamic lighting.

After a quick try I can confirm, that perfomance is way better. Got a 10-12 FPS boost (now running 30fps at JustSim EDDS & 40-42 FPS at other scenery like Aerosoft EDDF, EHAM etc). Still my graphic card is not good, but with a very powerfull cpu. I guess its a perfect balance now for my system (Ryzen 3700X, GTX970, 32GB RAM, 1080p monitor).
                                        Hope that helps for dev's.

In addition I found a bug. I am starting from cold&dark (previous flight with gpu & air condition connected) there is no way to turn off the gpu after using power from it. Disconnecting is still possible nevertheless.

Speaking of updates.... I recall it was mentioned that we may see the MAX in the mix at some future date. The reason I mention it, is I watched a couple of cockpit videos of the MAX and the flight deck is markedly different than the NG. The panel is more like the 787. It looked awesome. Might we see it in all of its splendor if and when it is in PMDG house colors?

I wouldn't get your hopes up of it happening anytime soon, given the situation with the actual aircraft at the moment. They need to be incredibly cautious about this since it's a pretty touchy subject at the moment.

Since the Update my ACARS isnt working any more.
                                                  Is that issue already known?
