PMDG Forum Rules

1) SIGN YOUR POSTS. Since 1997, we have asked users to sign their real name, first and last, to all posts in the PMDG forum. We do this in order to keep conversations personal and familiar. You took the time to be here, we want to get to know you. This is one of the few rigid rules that we enforce regularly. We do so because we feel that forums in which users must engage one another personally are generally warmer, more collegial and friendly. Posts that are unsigned will be quietly removed without comment by the moderators, so to make your life easy- we recommend enabling your forum signature so that you never need to remember. Do this by clicking the username pull-down at the top right, then selecting "User Settings." You will find the signature editor on the ACCOUNT tab, about half way down the page. Look for "Edit Post Signature." Be sure to click the "Show Signatures" box.

2) BE NICE. We are all simmers here and no matter our differences of opinion, we share a common love of aviation, computing and simulation. Treat everyone else in the forum with respect even when you disagree. If someone frustrates you, walk away from the conversation or ask for a moderator to get involved. Speaking of Moderators, they prefer not to be treated as "The Thought Police" but if any behavior infringes on the enjoyment of another user or is otherwise considered to be unacceptable in the moderator's judgment, it will be addressed in keeping with our view of ensuring that this forum remains a healthy environment for all simmers.

3) BE LAWFUL: Any behavior that infringes upon the law, such as discussion or solicitation of piracy, threats, intimidation or abuse will be handled unsympathetically by the moderators. Threats and intimidation may, at the moderator's discretion, be provided to law enforcement for handling.

4) BE FACTUAL: When you post, always be factual. Moderators will remove posts that are determined not to be factually accurate.

5) RESPECT COPYRIGHTS: Posting of copyrighted material such as flight manuals owned by Boeing or various airlines is not allowed in this forum. If you have questions related to copyrighted material, please contact a forum moderator for clarification.

6) RESPECT PMDG: We love to hear what you like about our products. We also like to hear what you think can be improved, or what isn't working. Please do tell us and we will always treat your feedback with value. Just be sure to treat the team respectfully, as they do put a significant amount of effort into building and maintaining these great simulation products for you.

7) RESPECT PMDG DEVELOPERS: All of the developers will spend some time here. Given the ratio of developers-to-users, it simply isn't possible for us to answer every post and private message individually. Please know that we do try to read everything, but developer workload is simply too high to manage personal contact with tens-of-thousands of users simultaneously. In most cases, members of the development team will stick to conversations in the forum and will not answer private messages.

8) RESPECT OTHER DEVELOPERS: PMDG has always advocated for a strong development community and we have many friends within this community. Every developer offers something unique that helps to make the simming community larger and more vibrant. We insist that you treat our friends respectfully.

9) RESPECT MODERATORS: Moderators have a tough job, and none of them enjoy having to stomp out negativity. If a moderator has to weigh in to keep a thread peaceful, please respect that effort and refrain from giving the moderator any grief.

10) If you require official support for any of our products please open a support ticket through the support portal, https://support.precisionmanuals.com

11) This forum is designed primarily as a vehicle for the PMDG development team to interact with our customers, and for customers to interact with one another in a manner that is positive, supportive and assists in the general advancement of understanding the simulation and helping to make this and future simulations better. Any other use of this forum is not permitted, including but not limited to discussion of pricing policies, business practices, forum moderating policies, advertising of non-PMDG products, promotion of events, services or products that are not approved in advance by PMDG or any other topic deemed unacceptable by any forum administrator

12) HAVE FUN: This is the whole point of it all.

    FMC Screen Freezing

New to this forum.. Old PMDG user. Never had to get support, til now. Hence the new forum account.

Anyways, I recently bought the 747-400 for P3D. I'm running v4.5. I did a few flights with no problems. Until today. It happend while I was loading up and doing preflight. Can't remember now exactly what I was doing at the time.. Either opening/closing doors or disconnecting ground equipment. All of the sudden the FMC screens froze and would't respnd to any LSK button clicks. Ok..P3d is buggy as..well.. we all know. Restarted the sim. Reloaded everything and did my flight, no issues. Just after I landed and went into the FMC again to start post flight ops, the FMC screens froze again and this time nothing on the panel at all would work. I searched around a little and couldn't find anything on this in partiular. i was wondering if this has already been coverd in another post. Apologies if it is. Plese link me to it. if not. any help is appriciated.

    Thanks,
    John

Jens, Can you please elaborate on what you are saying? From what I understand you get an FMC freeze in the -8 FMC when there is an insufficient fuel message? If yes can you please open a support ticket with this, including all steps you did?

This is the first time I hear something like this, there are no other reports and never had seen it during my tests

This time the aircraft CTD because I had

EFB window open which I had just performed a scan of airports.
            GSX 2 window was open
FMC window open - door page. (with sufficient fuel)
            FS2Crew running

I was busy ... big workload.
I closed R 1 & R2 and the catering trucks start closing up and prepared for leaving.

            Then 15 sec and CTD🐱‍🚀

When I come to thinks about it.... The other incident where I crashed a 748i I think I just went from external view after a GSX 2 fueling....

So maybe it's GSX ....and PMDG in disharmony?

I didn't even get to start Radar Contact 😊which actuallyy runs well .

            Thanks

            Jens

Google P3D ucrtbase.dll crash. There's not much PMDG can do to assist you with this.

I have been flying around now for a while and am very satisfied overall, but I am having issues with corrupt panel states apparently. Tonight for the second flight in a row, I parked, set parking brakes and shutdown the engines. When I went into the fmc I chocked the plane down in the ground operations manual but when I hit SET for the chocks the fmc's all freeze and I can't do anything else with them. It is extremely frustrating too because every forum topic I find on the matter seems to devolve into.."Yes i am having this problem too" posts with no real fix to be found.

So my question is can someone explain step by step what I need to do to load this plane up in P3d 4.5 so I can have it load up without a corrupted panelstate? Or link to where these instructions might already be posetd. What files do I need to delete if I have corrupt files. There seems to be .fmc and .rte files in the panel state folder.

Try using the Ground Connections page to set your chocks. I'm not familiar with the ground operations, only used it for testing, but I'd expect that unless you are setting up a turn around scenario you might as well stay away from it.

All files in the 747/PanelState folder can be deleted without causing problems. Next time you start P3D and load the 747 it will start in the default engines running full fuel state. From this default state simply create the conditions you want. For example, attach ground power and shut down engines. Set payload to zero and fuel to a low value. Add chocks and open doors and you have a perfectly reasonable turn around state (I call GAP for ground air/power). Repeat for the other states that you wish to use.

I did this and will test it and see how the new state I created works. Thanks for the help. If you never hear from me again on this topic, that means it worked and all is well in the world for me.

I just have one question and I apologise if this is coverd somewhere, but once I delete the panel states that come with the original install, how do I create a new cold and dark panel state because once you shut everything down to C&D, you can't work the FMC to save the panel state. Unless there is another way to do it?

                    Thanks again,

I'm not sure if it works the same way with the 747 FMC, but on both the 737 and 777, you can click and hold on the Menu button in the C&D state in order to "power on" the FMC in order to change settings while the aircraft is without power. I would be surprised if the 747 FMC behaves differently.

This is correct and works the same way on the 747.

Thanks for confirming that behavior, Kevin. My only "gripe" about this behavior is that once you have set up a custom Cold and Dark state that you want to save, saving the state will always (at least it seems that way in my experience) save that one FMC in the "powered on" state with everything else in the aircraft shut down. Not really a big deal since the FMC isn't really on, but it's just a very minor gripe that I have.

I am pretty sure that if you have a cold and dark aircraft, that when you load it the CDU will also be dark and not displaying a PMDG menu.

I'll have to double-check later, but I'm fairly certain with the NGX (not entirely sure with the 777), if I have a custom Cold and Dark state set as my startup state, when I start a flight and look down at the FMC, one of them is "on" and on the Menu page.

This is not the correct solution.
We should be able to create any customized panel state without any issues, that's why we have this option.
If there are any issues leading to freezes or other problems with this option creating panel states it should be properly investigated.
                            Not removing stuff.

I just loaded up one of my NGX liveries chosen at random (for the 900 model without winglets). I have a custom "Cold And Dark" state set for startup on all of my NGX aircraft where everything on the aircraft is off, but ground power and conditioned air are connected, so all I need to do is turn on the battery and enable the ground power to get started. When I first get into the aircraft, this is how my two CDUs appear. The first officer's CDU is the one that I always use to perform sim-related functions (opening/closing doors, setting fuel/payload, etc.), so the captain's CDU is always in FMC mode. In this instance, the first officer's CDU is the one I was using when setting up the custom "Cold And Dark" state.

When I checked one of my 777 liveries (which has an identical "Cold And Dark" default startup state), both the captain's and first officer's CDUs were off, as expected. I have not yet set up this custom state for the 747. So this may be something limited to just the NGX aircraft. In any case, this issue is very minor, and completely unrelated to the original post, so discussion of it probably doesn't need to be continued here.
