PMDG Forum Rules

1) SIGN YOUR POSTS. Since 1997, we have asked users to sign their real name, first and last, to all posts in the PMDG forum. We do this in order to keep conversations personal and familiar. You took the time to be here, we want to get to know you. This is one of the few rigid rules that we enforce regularly. We do so because we feel that forums in which users must engage one another personally are generally warmer, more collegial and friendly. Posts that are unsigned will be quietly removed without comment by the moderators, so to make your life easy- we recommend enabling your forum signature so that you never need to remember. Do this by clicking the username pull-down at the top right, then selecting "User Settings." You will find the signature editor on the ACCOUNT tab, about half way down the page. Look for "Edit Post Signature." Be sure to click the "Show Signatures" box.

2) BE NICE. We are all simmers here and no matter our differences of opinion, we share a common love of aviation, computing and simulation. Treat everyone else in the forum with respect even when you disagree. If someone frustrates you, walk away from the conversation or ask for a moderator to get involved. Speaking of Moderators, they prefer not to be treated as "The Thought Police" but if any behavior infringes on the enjoyment of another user or is otherwise considered to be unacceptable in the moderator's judgment, it will be addressed in keeping with our view of ensuring that this forum remains a healthy environment for all simmers.

3) BE LAWFUL: Any behavior that infringes upon the law, such as discussion or solicitation of piracy, threats, intimidation or abuse will be handled unsympathetically by the moderators. Threats and intimidation may, at the moderator's discretion, be provided to law enforcement for handling.

4) BE FACTUAL: When you post, always be factual. Moderators will remove posts that are determined not to be factually accurate.

5) RESPECT COPYRIGHTS: Posting of copyrighted material such as flight manuals owned by Boeing or various airlines is not allowed in this forum. If you have questions related to copyrighted material, please contact a forum moderator for clarification.

6) RESPECT PMDG: We love to hear what you like about our products. We also like to hear what you think can be improved, or what isn't working. Please do tell us and we will always treat your feedback with value. Just be sure to treat the team respectfully, as they do put a significant amount of effort into building and maintaining these great simulation products for you.

7) RESPECT PMDG DEVELOPERS: All of the developers will spend some time here. Given the ratio of developers-to-users, it simply isn't possible for us to answer every post and private message individually. Please know that we do try to read everything, but developer workload is simply too high to manage personal contact with tens-of-thousands of users simultaneously. In most cases, members of the development team will stick to conversations in the forum and will not answer private messages.

8) RESPECT OTHER DEVELOPERS: PMDG has always advocated for a strong development community and we have many friends within this community. Every developer offers something unique that helps to make the simming community larger and more vibrant. We insist that you treat our friends respectfully.

9) RESPECT MODERATORS: Moderators have a tough job, and none of them enjoy having to stomp out negativity. If a moderator has to weigh in to keep a thread peaceful, please respect that effort and refrain from giving the moderator any grief.

10) If you require official support for any of our products please open a support ticket through the support portal, https://support.precisionmanuals.com

11) This forum is designed primarily as a vehicle for the PMDG development team to interact with our customers, and for customers to interact with one another in a manner that is positive, supportive and assists in the general advancement of understanding the simulation and helping to make this and future simulations better. Any other use of this forum is not permitted, including but not limited to discussion of pricing policies, business practices, forum moderating policies, advertising of non-PMDG products, promotion of events, services or products that are not approved in advance by PMDG or any other topic deemed unacceptable by any forum administrator

12) HAVE FUN: This is the whole point of it all.

    [12APR19] A weekend Two-fer, P3D v4.5 update thoughts and 73s and 4s and 7s, oh MY!

    Captains,

    Welcome to the weekend!

I have a little bit of information for you on a broad range of topics and product lines, so let us dive right in, shall we?

    PMDG 747 Updates:
Last week I mentioned that we have a batch of updates coming for the 747 product line. There are two people who have to be in the office in order to push updates, and the two of us have been in the office all week- but not at the same time.

This afternoon we finally got around to pushing the first update for the 747s, then we realized that we botched a piece of it- so we fixed that by pushing the second planned update in immediately succession. (Always keep a spare on hand... you never know...)

These updates are available to you now through the PMDG Operations Center. (it is NOT available as a full installer) and it is worth pointing out that the updater is pretty intelligent and will install multiple updates simultaneously to make sure you are on the most current version of the 747 with only a single update effort. (Pretty nifty! )

One item that we think you will like with this update is that Jeppesen and Navigraph were able to reach agreement to allow us to unlock displaying charts on the iPad app- so you have immediate access to this functionality effective with this update.

Change lists for these updates are as follows:

    Prepar3D v4.5 and add-on license validity checks:
When Lockheed Martin drops updates for Prepar3D, there are always questions as to whether our products are compatible. Short answer: Yes.

PMDG is on the Lockheed Martin testing team, and this gives us a tremendous opportunity not only to look for potential issues in Lockheed's test builds, (we are regularly reporting items and asking for others to be evaluated) but also to evaluate the performance of our own products in the new platform updates. If we play our cards correctly- any compatibility issues are ironed out before you see them, so you normally don't need to worry about your PMDG products when moving forward within Prepar3D's minor-update process.

When new LM updates drop, there are always threads that pop up saying "I updated and now P3D stopped working" or "I updated P3D and now <insert product> won't work." Our support team has worked with hundreds of customers over the past few days, and one of the things that we would like users to understand is that there are some differences in how various developers "control" which version your product is compatible with. Your PMDG products are always using a "greater than" version check, meaning "the version of your Prepar3D must be greater than <insert our limiting number>" So, for example, we will require that NG3 users e on version 4.4 or higher at time of installation.

Most developers use only this "greater than" check, but then some also add a "less than" check. The "less than" check looks to be certain that THEY have approved your product to work with any newer versions of Prepare3D- and it is this check that is disabling your product when you install a new version of Prepar3D. While in theory, the less-than check should only lock down their own product, there are a number of well known instances in which the less-than check simply disabled Prepar3D altogether- which is ungraceful and rather invasive.

So- if you upgrade Prepar3D and one of your add-ons stops running or the sim itself becomes completely disabled by one of your add-ons, it is one of these LESS THAN checks that is disabling your enjoyment of the simulator and if you simply remove the offending product you will be back up and running with all of your OTHER products.

Something to think about- and we hope it spares you waiting around for help!

    PMDG 737 NG3:
We are still crunching ahead- and making very good progress. One area where we are falling behind a bit is the external model fit and finish, as Jason is currently splitting time between three different products and hasn't been able to dedicate the sort of time to wrapping up the new NG3 models that he would like. Hopefully he will be back up to speed in the weeks ahead- and that will keep us on track for the first release of the new NG3 product line.

A number of folks have been asking for us to let you know precisely what the NG3 product line will be comprised of and we will... but not just yet.

Soon tho... (For legal reasons, the PMDG definition of "soon" is loosely defined as starting twenty minutes from now, and ending precisely fifteen minutes after the end of time. )

    PMDG 777:
Currently we are evaluating what the schedule is for the next update cycle on the 777. Right now, all development priority is on the NG3, 747 and Global Flight Operations- but the 777 is going to get a few updates in the following areas:
    • Electronic Flight Bag
    • PBR for P3D v4
    • Compatibility with Global Flight Operations
    • General fixes/corrections
Interestingly, what will likely drive the schedule for updating the 777 is going to be Global Flight Operations- so were I to put money on the bet at this juncture- I would point to Global Flight Operations as being the best friend of anyone eagerly awaiting these updates for the 777. This update will embed all of the communications pieces that the 777 will need in order to exist within the PMDG Global Flight Operations universe, and since this is about to become very important for the rollout of Global Flight Operations, it will mean increased attention to the 777.

    Forum Access Updates:
Last weekend there was a bunch of overly dramatic hyperventilation over the fact that you must be a member of the PMDG forum in order to read the forum. This was simply a leftover permission setting from earlier, when we had the forum active but only for PMDG beta testers and we didn't want the general public to be able to see message traffic. We forgot to turn this permission setting off when we went live- but we did so this morning and you should be able to read the PMDG forum without logging in if you desire.

To interact with users in the forum you MUST have a user account and you must be logged in, which we think makes good sense.

    PMDG DC-6 Updates:
We are having some discussion internally about PBR updates for the DC-6 product line, and also about updating the DC-6 to X-Plane 11 a bit later this year. No real firm timelines on any of this just yet- but I wanted you to know it is being discussed.

    PMDG BAe JS4100 Updates:
We are not currently planning any development time on this product due to severe problems we ran into while trying to upgrade it to become compatible with Prepar3D. There WILL come a time when we circle back for it, but it is unlikely to happen in the near term.

    X-Plane Development Updates:
Our workflow is currently best described as "significantly more than we can handle." We are talking about how to schedule one of the airliners into development for X-Plane but we aren't seeing a good clear pathway for this to happen just yet. We have a bunch of strategic objectives to knock out this year before I think we can seriously look at directing development time and investment toward moving something like NG3 in the direction of X-Plane- but it is a topic of discussion and once we have some definition in the discussion, I will be sure to share it with you.

Okay everyone- enjoy your weekend- and as always, thanks for your support of our entire product line.

                            That's the definition of "soon" as contained in 62 U.S.C. § 1529 and clarified in Goggi v. Randazzo, 572 U.S. 234 (2021)....

I am especially happy with the phrase "Display of navigraph terminal charts on remote EFB application". This gives so much more realism. Great app!

I just wonder if the 747 features like the wobbling engines ( because those GE90`s just HAVE to wobble :P ) and the cockpit shaking effect will also be moved over to the 777?

Looking forward to NG3 first screenshots.
Ironically, years ago I left XP and moved back to FS platform when the NGX came out and I feel history will repeat itself when the NG3 will come out. It will be time to move to P3D and leave FS for good.
Big thank you to you all in the team. You are doing wonders

Soon tho... (For legal reasons, the PMDG definition of "soon" is loosely defined as starting twenty minutes from now, and ending precisely fifteen minutes after the end of time. )

I am eagerly awaiting all 3 products and updates!!!
                                              Yours Truly

Thanks for the clarification on the J41. Not what I wanted to hear, but I appreciate you telling us.

Thanks PMDG for the 747 updates, I remembered to read that this update will contain LNAV and FD updates and the B748 strobe fix in last weekend's post, but I didn't see these in the change log.
After I load up my B748 I found the strobe light issue is still there. I'd like to ask if the LNAV and FD updates are not included in this one as well?

We never said the LNAV/FD fixes will be on this update. What we said is that are being working one. The Strobe you mean in FSX ERF? These are fixed.

Maybe I misunderstood the post. Really anticipated of that.
The strobe issue I submit the ticket and got the answer that it'll be fixed in this update, but maybe Paul thought it's the ERF in FSX like you. But what I reported was for B748 and I don't think B748 has a ERF variant. The time of each "flash" was too long compared to the real one. I know it's LED typed strobe but the "flash" is too long.
