PMDG Forum Rules

1) SIGN YOUR POSTS. Since 1997, we have asked users to sign their real name, first and last, to all posts in the PMDG forum. We do this in order to keep conversations personal and familiar. You took the time to be here, we want to get to know you. This is one of the few rigid rules that we enforce regularly. We do so because we feel that forums in which users must engage one another personally are generally warmer, more collegial and friendly. Posts that are unsigned will be quietly removed without comment by the moderators, so to make your life easy- we recommend enabling your forum signature so that you never need to remember. Do this by clicking the username pull-down at the top right, then selecting "User Settings." You will find the signature editor on the ACCOUNT tab, about half way down the page. Look for "Edit Post Signature." Be sure to click the "Show Signatures" box.

2) BE NICE. We are all simmers here and no matter our differences of opinion, we share a common love of aviation, computing and simulation. Treat everyone else in the forum with respect even when you disagree. If someone frustrates you, walk away from the conversation or ask for a moderator to get involved. Speaking of Moderators, they prefer not to be treated as "The Thought Police" but if any behavior infringes on the enjoyment of another user or is otherwise considered to be unacceptable in the moderator's judgment, it will be addressed in keeping with our view of ensuring that this forum remains a healthy environment for all simmers.

3) BE LAWFUL: Any behavior that infringes upon the law, such as discussion or solicitation of piracy, threats, intimidation or abuse will be handled unsympathetically by the moderators. Threats and intimidation may, at the moderator's discretion, be provided to law enforcement for handling.

4) BE FACTUAL: When you post, always be factual. Moderators will remove posts that are determined not to be factually accurate.

5) RESPECT COPYRIGHTS: Posting of copyrighted material such as flight manuals owned by Boeing or various airlines is not allowed in this forum. If you have questions related to copyrighted material, please contact a forum moderator for clarification.

6) RESPECT PMDG: We love to hear what you like about our products. We also like to hear what you think can be improved, or what isn't working. Please do tell us and we will always treat your feedback with value. Just be sure to treat the team respectfully, as they do put a significant amount of effort into building and maintaining these great simulation products for you.

7) RESPECT PMDG DEVELOPERS: All of the developers will spend some time here. Given the ratio of developers-to-users, it simply isn't possible for us to answer every post and private message individually. Please know that we do try to read everything, but developer workload is simply too high to manage personal contact with tens-of-thousands of users simultaneously. In most cases, members of the development team will stick to conversations in the forum and will not answer private messages.

8) RESPECT OTHER DEVELOPERS: PMDG has always advocated for a strong development community and we have many friends within this community. Every developer offers something unique that helps to make the simming community larger and more vibrant. We insist that you treat our friends respectfully.

9) RESPECT MODERATORS: Moderators have a tough job, and none of them enjoy having to stomp out negativity. If a moderator has to weigh in to keep a thread peaceful, please respect that effort and refrain from giving the moderator any grief.

10) If you require official support for any of our products please open a support ticket through the support portal, https://support.precisionmanuals.com

11) This forum is designed primarily as a vehicle for the PMDG development team to interact with our customers, and for customers to interact with one another in a manner that is positive, supportive and assists in the general advancement of understanding the simulation and helping to make this and future simulations better. Any other use of this forum is not permitted, including but not limited to discussion of pricing policies, business practices, forum moderating policies, advertising of non-PMDG products, promotion of events, services or products that are not approved in advance by PMDG or any other topic deemed unacceptable by any forum administrator

[16MAY20] New Micro Update for PMDG 747 Queen of the Skies II P4D/P5D available!

    Captains,

A few moments ago we have pushed an update to the PMDG 747 Queen of the Skies II product lines for Prepar3D v4 and v5.

This update is intended to do a bit of cleanup for items that bubbled up after release of our major update last weekend. We also rolled out the long promised connectivity for REX weather radar, and updated the existing Active Sky connectivity to recognize the new ActiveSky P3D versioning that was introduced by HiFi last week. This week also got some fixes to the tiller steering module, some fixes to ground physics and the ability to select "default" steering if you choose.

Installation will depend upon where you are in the update cycle:

You have the version we released last weekend via full-installer:

If you already have last week’s major update installed, you can get this update by simply going into the PMDG Operations Center (check your start menu) and then click on the Aircraft and Liveries, and then select the Aircraft Updates tab.

You have an earlier version installed still:

First you will need to log into your account at PMDG.com and download the new 747 installers from there. Once you have done this, follow the instructions above for the micro-update.

That is all from me for now- hope you all have a nice weekend and get in some pleasant flying!

    A note on Wx Radar:
We now have the ability to select between ActiveSky P3D and REX available to you in the 747. There is a flip/flop setting you will want to toggle to tell the airplane which to use. You can find this by going into the PMDG FMS options menu, select SIMULATION and then hit PAGE UP one time. (fastest way to reach it...)

    A note on Steering/Ground Physics:
We have added some improved menu options and improved their selectability so that you have a better understanding of what each setting is doing for you.

You can find the full description on page 106 of the INTRODUCTION document. (<root sim>/PMDG/PMDG747 QOTSII/Flight Manuals/PMDG_747_Introduction.pdf)

This will walk you through the various settings and what they do. We *strongly* encourage you to be sure and set the USE P3D TILLER AXIS setting correctly to match your sim setting. The rest of the settings are purely your choice and we recommend you give them a try and see which works best for you. Also it is important to understand that when you are using a tiller, your ruder pedals will realistically provide you with 7 degrees of steering through the nosewheel, which is plenty to get you to the high speed exit and to maintain the centerline while taxiing straight ahead.

Robert, there is no mention of the SDK in the update notes. Has this been fixed?

Dan- It will. They use the same system and the parameters are changed for the vehicle being modeled. I try very hard not to have to re-write stuff in multiple products. :-) - RSR

Yori, What specifically are you looking for? The issue correction text is a vague summary of the initial fault. The actual Nose Steering system was completely revisited and substantially improved. The core issue of the steering disappearing after 10 kts was corrected along with a major update to the overall steering model which makes it handle quite well based on my experience taxiing the aircraft myself.

i assumed because he put the ground handling part about page 107 that it was that and not the WX radar

plus i do have both to use however it is greyed out as per the instruction manual says it should be able to be selected if both are available

Great update. I tested out the weather radar using the Beta version of Active Sky. Works well. Steering is an improvement. This completes my long list of Updates needed to erase V4.5 from my system. All airports are updated, GSX, Active Sky, V-pilot, PMDG747. The 737, 777 and LD787 are the only three planes left. But as long as I have the 747, I am happy as pig in @#$%.

                                        Gents,

Why did the PMDG Operations Centre update P3Dv5 (therefore adding PMDG files into P3Dv5) when I do not have the aircraft installed in v5? My v5 currently is a vanilla install as I am not using it yet. I now have files in the v5 root directory and in the SimObjects file.

There seems to be no uninstall however I have been able to back track and remove what went into v5.

                                        Thanks,

                                        Mark

There was a parking brake prompt error in the previous update with FS2Crew despite it was already set.

Anyone can help to try with the new update?

Wow! Thank you very much. I did not expect you to fix the RADAR so soon.

David- Not a difficult or time consuming fix at all. The issue was that they rolled it out the day after we built the update and we knew nothing about it pending. Hard to accommodate a change that happens after you finish, you know? LOL -RSR
