PMDG Forum Rules

1) SIGN YOUR POSTS. Since 1997, we have asked users to sign their real name, first and last, to all posts in the PMDG forum. We do this in order to keep conversations personal and familiar. You took the time to be here, we want to get to know you. This is one of the few rigid rules that we enforce regularly. We do so because we feel that forums in which users must engage one another personally are generally warmer, more collegial and friendly. Posts that are unsigned will be quietly removed without comment by the moderators, so to make your life easy- we recommend enabling your forum signature so that you never need to remember. Do this by clicking the username pull-down at the top right, then selecting "User Settings." You will find the signature editor on the ACCOUNT tab, about half way down the page. Look for "Edit Post Signature." Be sure to click the "Show Signatures" box.

2) BE NICE. We are all simmers here and no matter our differences of opinion, we share a common love of aviation, computing and simulation. Treat everyone else in the forum with respect even when you disagree. If someone frustrates you, walk away from the conversation or ask for a moderator to get involved. Speaking of Moderators, they prefer not to be treated as "The Thought Police" but if any behavior infringes on the enjoyment of another user or is otherwise considered to be unacceptable in the moderator's judgment, it will be addressed in keeping with our view of ensuring that this forum remains a healthy environment for all simmers.

3) BE LAWFUL: Any behavior that infringes upon the law, such as discussion or solicitation of piracy, threats, intimidation or abuse will be handled unsympathetically by the moderators. Threats and intimidation may, at the moderator's discretion, be provided to law enforcement for handling.

4) BE FACTUAL: When you post, always be factual. Moderators will remove posts that are determined not to be factually accurate.

5) RESPECT COPYRIGHTS: Posting of copyrighted material such as flight manuals owned by Boeing or various airlines is not allowed in this forum. If you have questions related to copyrighted material, please contact a forum moderator for clarification.

6) RESPECT PMDG: We love to hear what you like about our products. We also like to hear what you think can be improved, or what isn't working. Please do tell us and we will always treat your feedback with value. Just be sure to treat the team respectfully, as they do put a significant amount of effort into building and maintaining these great simulation products for you.

7) RESPECT PMDG DEVELOPERS: All of the developers will spend some time here. Given the ratio of developers-to-users, it simply isn't possible for us to answer every post and private message individually. Please know that we do try to read everything, but developer workload is simply too high to manage personal contact with tens-of-thousands of users simultaneously. In most cases, members of the development team will stick to conversations in the forum and will not answer private messages.

8) RESPECT OTHER DEVELOPERS: PMDG has always advocated for a strong development community and we have many friends within this community. Every developer offers something unique that helps to make the simming community larger and more vibrant. We insist that you treat our friends respectfully.

9) RESPECT MODERATORS: Moderators have a tough job, and none of them enjoy having to stomp out negativity. If a moderator has to weigh in to keep a thread peaceful, please respect that effort and refrain from giving the moderator any grief.

10) If you require official support for any of our products please open a support ticket through the support portal, https://support.precisionmanuals.com

11) This forum is designed primarily as a vehicle for the PMDG development team to interact with our customers, and for customers to interact with one another in a manner that is positive, supportive and assists in the general advancement of understanding the simulation and helping to make this and future simulations better. Any other use of this forum is not permitted, including but not limited to discussion of pricing policies, business practices, forum moderating policies, advertising of non-PMDG products, promotion of events, services or products that are not approved in advance by PMDG or any other topic deemed unacceptable by any forum administrator

[01FEB23] PMDG DC-6 for MSFS Update Released

    Captains-

A short bit ago, we released an update for the PMDG DC-6 for Microsoft Flight Simulator. This update follows up on our desire to keep the state of the DC-6 moving forward with changes in the MSFS platform so that you will be able to continue enjoying the airplane as well as new features and technologies that get added to Microsoft Flight Simulator going forward.

    DC6_micro.jpg

We have been monitoring progress in a few key areas of the simulation platform, such as the great work being done by Working Title, changes in stability handling and a few other fixes on the platform side and we are taking this opportunity to fold those into the DC-6 for your enjoyment.

This update is available to all PMDG eCommerce customers immediately using the PMDG Operations Center. Simply click on Aircraft and Liveries then Product Updates. This will take you to the Product Updates page within PMDG Operations Center, where the update button will be highlighted for you to grab the latest build of the DC-6.

If you purchased your PMDG DC-6 for Microsoft Flight Simulator from the Microsoft Flght Simulator Marketplace, we have handed the new update to Microsoft for distribution, and you will receive it via the marketplace content update process once they push it along the release path. (We hope quickly- but don't have a feel for how quickly just yet!)

As with all PMDG updates, many of the changes are very small and focused on details, but the major topic areas for this update are as follows:

    * Utilize the Working Title GNS430 for GPS and autopilot
    * Flight model stability alterations and improvements
    * Autopilot tuning and improvements
    * Increase resolution and sharpness of some overhead panel placards
    * Fix for gyro-pilot dropping out of NAV mode when disabling ALT HOLD
    * GPS now correctly powers on/off/reboots with avionics master
    * Fix to prevent gyro-pilot's 2 minute 'gyro erection timer' interfering with gyro-pilot use when spawning already airborne airborne.

We have been holding this update, pending the AAU1 update from Asobo getting made live- so we thank you fro your patience as we brought this update to you. The new GNS430 from Working Title is *far* more robust than the original Asobo-designed GNS430, so we think you will enjoy this update because of the improved navigation performance that you can have using this new GPS.

We are working to bring more GPS options into the DC-6, and we will roll those to you as they are completed/vetted. We do have to take these modifications carefully- and we don't plan to say much about them until they roll out- so stay tuned to the update process for more goodies.

As always- thank you for your enthusiastic support of our products and our efforts to keep them working well as the MSFS platform changes and grows!

So happy to have this. Will continue my World Tour and now the next flight will be in DC-6... I have missed flying it due to the gyropilot issues, but one of my favourite aircraft seems to be back! Thanks Robert and PMDG team!

David- A friendly helper from me: The 900 release will say "PMDG 737-900 Released" in the title. It won't say "PMDG DC-6 for MSFS Update Released." Sorry for the confusion, but I hope this tip is helpful. :-) - RSR

And there you have it, Robert just confirmed 737-900 released (I'm kidding if that wasn't obvious before anyone comes after me with a sledge hammer).

Not to take anything away from the 737, but the DC-6 is the airplane I keep finding myself coming back to, so many thanks for keeping it excellent as the sim evolves.

              We‘ll see :P

I‘ll be happy if I can update the DC6 without getting the dropping CB‘s for once. If I can dial in my QNH or 1013hPa below 18000ft, hit ALT HOLD and it holds its altitude without me changing the systems.cfg or pressing B.

I‘d be happy if I could use proper mouse actions without going into the file management after every update and replacing xml files on my own.

I‘ll be happy if the Gyro pilot modes are back working as they should in a DC6 following a CDI and maybe a glide slope indicator. I have no use for an RNP1 capable DC6 perfectly following an RNAV approach.. And I hope the PMS50 GNS will continue to work with AAU1. I have a full working day in front of me and will try the update once I get back home .

I have seriously wondered so many times why this isn't just a configurable option, either in the Ops Center or the CDU menu!

It has to swap the VC xml file so it can‘t be ingame. But OC2 would be such a simple choice.

that image is a little outdated btw , currently they have GTN750's installed where the GNS530s are in that picture

First flight after the today patch, the Vor/localizer AP seemed not working at all, so I decided to load the WT GNS430 and then switched to the old Bendix radios again: the AP started to follow the Vor and the ILS worked perfectly.

OK so I have an issue. First flight in the DC-6, after the update, Bendix radios... and gyropilot is not following radials at all. As if it was in heading mode. Just ignoring VORs completely. ILS also failed to capture both.

                          Any ideas?

                            Well,

Swaluver88 it seems I AM a very happy person now This update is fabulous! I leveled out at 12000 ft and engaged ALT HOLD, the altitude has been held. I turned on LOC mode, the CDI has been followed regardless whether I slave it to the GNS or the VOR receiver. Haven't tried the ILS yet but I expect it will work just fine as well.

rsrandazzo did you guys change something in the cockpit? It may just be the recent update or the fact that the Northwest Territories in Canada have some amazing illumination during a great and freezing winter day but the cockpit looks a lot more vivid and clearer than before.

Thank you so much PMDG, great update indeed!!!!

Oh and... the new WT GNS is absolutely great. Some UI bugs in the settings area but they'll probably keep working on it anyway. I'll miss the metar info of the PMS50 version but well.. I have a tablet here for that.

The handrails are still missing on the pilot's ladder, on the DC-6A. A small issue, but an irritation on an otherwise superb model. I believe one of the DC-6B models is affected also ( the short nose one, according to this thread ):

Is there a reason why the front cabin stairs have handrails on the DC-6B, but not on the DC-6A ? An omission maybe, or was it because they were cargo pilots and nobody cared if they fell off ?

Those <TAIL REG>.ini files in LocalState\packages\pmdg-aircraft-dc6\work\Aircraft ... some of them have "0" for all three parameters in there. Is that how it should be? The livery I'm testing has:

                                  radiosb="2"

VOR still not working after sim restart... will swing around for the ILS in a few mins.

Failed ILS too. BRB after a PC restart and I'll delete the render m* files too.

Did not help, the only way to get it working is to switch to GNS430 than back to Bendix.

Also very weird, the DME indicator is showing me 115kt, while my current ground speed is around 250kt, and yes I am following a VOR radial

So you can confirm Bendix works if you turn on GNS430 once? Bendix will work from then on? Or do you need to do this every single time?

No idea, I will try it out

Weird, I did it again and the GNS430 switch to GPS on it's own, the needle was vibrating like crazy until I switch to VLOC manually

I needed to do that again for the second VOR, but i was switching back and forth between Bendix and 430. Seems to be a major issue there.

No go for the Bendix on my side, hopefully the GNS430 will be better

                                    Scene I:

                                    1. Acft preconfigured with Bendix.
                                    2. Loaded in, took off.
                                    3. VOR radial failed. ILS failed.
                                    4. Switched to GNS and back to Bendix.
                                    5. Both started working.
                                    6. Ended flight with Bendix selected as default.

                                    Scene II:

                                    1. Loaded into airport again, with Bendix as default.
                                    2. Nothing worked, again.
                                    3. Flipping GNS on and off, to get back to Bendix, got everything working again.
                                    4. Ended flight.

                                    Please fix. <3

Just curious for those who are having weird avionics issues (I don’t own the DC-6 so I can’t experiment myself) … do you guys have the older (pre-AAU1) Working Title GPS mods installed via the Marketplace? If so, perhaps they are conflicting with something.

So I have the WT 1.1.2 GNS430 from the Marketplace which is some 28 MB (I think) and the 1.1.4 AAU1 patch, which is like 26 KB, or something small. I was informed that I need both. I don't have anything out of the Marketplace apart from the PMS GTN750.

I had the same issue described above. Last night I flew KBUR-KLAS and had no issues, though the GPS was on at spawn then I switched to Bendix. Today my aircraft spawned with Bendix for my flight KLAS-KDEN and it had VOR tracking issues until I reset it by toggling the GPS then back to the Bendix. Now it works just fine.
