PMDG Forum Rules

1) SIGN YOUR POSTS. Since 1997, we have asked users to sign their real name, first and last, to all posts in the PMDG forum. We do this in order to keep conversations personal and familiar. You took the time to be here, we want to get to know you. This is one of the few rigid rules that we enforce regularly. We do so because we feel that forums in which users must engage one another personally are generally warmer, more collegial and friendly. Posts that are unsigned will be quietly removed without comment by the moderators, so to make your life easy- we recommend enabling your forum signature so that you never need to remember. Do this by clicking the username pull-down at the top right, then selecting "User Settings." You will find the signature editor on the ACCOUNT tab, about half way down the page. Look for "Edit Post Signature." Be sure to click the "Show Signatures" box.

2) BE NICE. We are all simmers here and no matter our differences of opinion, we share a common love of aviation, computing and simulation. Treat everyone else in the forum with respect even when you disagree. If someone frustrates you, walk away from the conversation or ask for a moderator to get involved. Speaking of Moderators, they prefer not to be treated as "The Thought Police" but if any behavior infringes on the enjoyment of another user or is otherwise considered to be unacceptable in the moderator's judgment, it will be addressed in keeping with our view of ensuring that this forum remains a healthy environment for all simmers.

3) BE LAWFUL: Any behavior that infringes upon the law, such as discussion or solicitation of piracy, threats, intimidation or abuse will be handled unsympathetically by the moderators. Threats and intimidation may, at the moderator's discretion, be provided to law enforcement for handling.

4) BE FACTUAL: When you post, always be factual. Moderators will remove posts that are determined not to be factually accurate.

5) RESPECT COPYRIGHTS: Posting of copyrighted material such as flight manuals owned by Boeing or various airlines is not allowed in this forum. If you have questions related to copyrighted material, please contact a forum moderator for clarification.

6) RESPECT PMDG: We love to hear what you like about our products. We also like to hear what you think can be improved, or what isn't working. Please do tell us and we will always treat your feedback with value. Just be sure to treat the team respectfully, as they do put a significant amount of effort into building and maintaining these great simulation products for you.

7) RESPECT PMDG DEVELOPERS: All of the developers will spend some time here. Given the ratio of developers-to-users, it simply isn't possible for us to answer every post and private message individually. Please know that we do try to read everything, but developer workload is simply too high to manage personal contact with tens-of-thousands of users simultaneously. In most cases, members of the development team will stick to conversations in the forum and will not answer private messages.

8) RESPECT OTHER DEVELOPERS: PMDG has always advocated for a strong development community and we have many friends within this community. Every developer offers something unique that helps to make the simming community larger and more vibrant. We insist that you treat our friends respectfully.

9) RESPECT MODERATORS: Moderators have a tough job, and none of them enjoy having to stomp out negativity. If a moderator has to weigh in to keep a thread peaceful, please respect that effort and refrain from giving the moderator any grief.

10) If you require official support for any of our products please open a support ticket through the support portal, https://support.precisionmanuals.com

11) This forum is designed primarily as a vehicle for the PMDG development team to interact with our customers, and for customers to interact with one another in a manner that is positive, supportive and assists in the general advancement of understanding the simulation and helping to make this and future simulations better. Any other use of this forum is not permitted, including but not limited to discussion of pricing policies, business practices, forum moderating policies, advertising of non-PMDG products, promotion of events, services or products that are not approved in advance by PMDG or any other topic deemed unacceptable by any forum administrator

12) HAVE FUN: This is the whole point of it all.

Can we just load it up without issue or will the 737 not work if we update straightaway?

The 737 has been working well with all the SU10 Beta releases so far. Not complaints at all. Keep in mind, the first load of each variant could take almost 20 minutes to recompile, so some initial patience is required.

I've been flying with no issues and even less CTD's in the SU10 beta.

Did you all see the new DLSS 3.0? Looks to be a gamechanger. Previously it was only benefiting those who were GPU limited but this time NVIDIA states that performance can double for CPU bound games. If that is the case, it is no brainer why Asobo is implementing DLSS 3.0. Only unfortunate part is that is looking to be only for the upcoming 4000 series and not the 30 or perhaps 20 series

Noooooot necessarily. Everything I've seen thus far points to being able to use the DLSS on 30 series. There's no reason a GPU that powerful can't and won't run DLSS.

JWarner32 unfortunately that is not the case, it is already confirmed that the 30 or 20 series will not support the full DLSS 3 version.

I always had a feeling that this partnership with Nvidia will be bad news. I hope ray-tracing isn't limited to RTX too and its a DXR implementation instead.

Why didnt AMD jump on this partnership considering their close ties with Xbox I have no idea.

The demonstration was to show how big of an improvement that DLSS3 can bring to CPU bound titles - but I don't think it was was in any way saying that MSFS would be limited to only DLSS3. I expect DLSS and DLSS2 to work, but with far more modest performance gains. Visual quality of the earlier implementations, being an unknown, for interior views.

Which, on a related note to all this - for those using nVidia cards, be on the lookout for a (necessary) driver update that should drop tomorrow as well.

Can't wait. SU 9 gets dog slow for me on longer flights. I understand this issue has been fixed in SU 10. Actually blew tires on a landing at KOAK from KHOU tonight because the sim lagged so hard, I went off the runway.

Would we have PMDG Update for weather radar after SU 10 ?

As far as I understand there are some elements that Asobo hasn't provided with the terrain and weather api, thus weather radar is going to be unavailable at the moment. If elements that are required have been added for today's final release we can expect weather radar.
Asobo generally prefers to bult api's for planes coded in Java, which are less complex.
PMDG is written in C++ so I suppose that is the main problem-Asobo's lack of support for complex aircraft.

one of the features of SU10 is that weather radar api will be available also for wasm coded aircrafts (which is pmdg and others), but some guys from (not sure if i remember correctly) fenix a320 told that it is not so much usable, as it provides only “bitmap” of the radar, not a raw weather data.

Something was said about this a few days ago.
They would have had a little fun with the API. But for the moment still nothing that could be useful to us in an airliner.
We will have to wait. But how long did we wait to get it in fsx ?

I've been thoroughly enjoying the beta. Performance has improved significantly, especially with DX12, and I've had no issues with any of my third-party add-ons. Stability has improved too (except for that CTD fiasco that was fixed server-side). Overall, it's a win in my books.

Really looking forward to this and the 40th Anniversary update in November. Exciting times ahead!

So we should go and activate DX12 on our system settings for MSFS after the update? Or is it dependent on what your PC specs are?

Depends on your PC. The release notes also state that DX12 has a tendency of gobbling VRAM, so if you have a lower spec graphics card it could cause degradation.

Also, if you are on nVidia, the DX12 implementation is assuming you are running the new driver udpate that was supposed to release at the same time. Yet, it does not seem to be here yet.

PMDG please incorporate the new ground handling variables. Take off and landing roll are pretty dodgy.

No, the WASM specific part of the release notes calls out support.

                        WASM
                        • Added a new sample about how using Terrain/Weather API
                        • Implemented Terrain/Weather API
                        • [Beta] Added a Visual Studio Debugger Extension which improves Wasm Debugging (Especially inspecting callbacks)
                        • Implemented trigger_key_event_EX1 to trigger key events with mutilple arguments (See documentation for more information)
                        • Fixed reloading of standalone WASM modules after sign-out / sign-in

In the last Blue Sky Radio interview with RSR, he talked about the potential challenges with this API and that they would at least be looking at it. If Asobo is only providing a bitmap image but no addition details, that doesn't give nearly enough of the information that is typically presented on the 737 screens.

Maybe we will have to wait for a "Weather API v2"

The specific callout in the release notes for this feature is:
                            • Added new parameters to [FLIGHT_TUNING] section to control the static friction at high speeds and set how sticky the wheels should behave when rolling at higher speeds. These parameters are not used yet on any aircraft
