PMDG Forum Rules

1) SIGN YOUR POSTS. Since 1997, we have asked users to sign their real name, first and last, to all posts in the PMDG forum. We do this in order to keep conversations personal and familiar. You took the time to be here, we want to get to know you. This is one of the few rigid rules that we enforce regularly. We do so because we feel that forums in which users must engage one another personally are generally warmer, more collegial and friendly. Posts that are unsigned will be quietly removed without comment by the moderators, so to make your life easy- we recommend enabling your forum signature so that you never need to remember. Do this by clicking the username pull-down at the top right, then selecting "User Settings." You will find the signature editor on the ACCOUNT tab, about half way down the page. Look for "Edit Post Signature." Be sure to click the "Show Signatures" box.

2) BE NICE. We are all simmers here and no matter our differences of opinion, we share a common love of aviation, computing and simulation. Treat everyone else in the forum with respect even when you disagree. If someone frustrates you, walk away from the conversation or ask for a moderator to get involved. Speaking of Moderators, they prefer not to be treated as "The Thought Police" but if any behavior infringes on the enjoyment of another user or is otherwise considered to be unacceptable in the moderator's judgment, it will be addressed in keeping with our view of ensuring that this forum remains a healthy environment for all simmers.

3) BE LAWFUL: Any behavior that infringes upon the law, such as discussion or solicitation of piracy, threats, intimidation or abuse will be handled unsympathetically by the moderators. Threats and intimidation may, at the moderator's discretion, be provided to law enforcement for handling.

4) BE FACTUAL: When you post, always be factual. Moderators will remove posts that are determined not to be factually accurate.

5) RESPECT COPYRIGHTS: Posting of copyrighted material such as flight manuals owned by Boeing or various airlines is not allowed in this forum. If you have questions related to copyrighted material, please contact a forum moderator for clarification.

6) RESPECT PMDG: We love to hear what you like about our products. We also like to hear what you think can be improved, or what isn't working. Please do tell us and we will always treat your feedback with value. Just be sure to treat the team respectfully, as they do put a significant amount of effort into building and maintaining these great simulation products for you.

7) RESPECT PMDG DEVELOPERS: All of the developers will spend some time here. Given the ratio of developers-to-users, it simply isn't possible for us to answer every post and private message individually. Please know that we do try to read everything, but developer workload is simply too high to manage personal contact with tens-of-thousands of users simultaneously. In most cases, members of the development team will stick to conversations in the forum and will not answer private messages.

8) RESPECT OTHER DEVELOPERS: PMDG has always advocated for a strong development community and we have many friends within this community. Every developer offers something unique that helps to make the simming community larger and more vibrant. We insist that you treat our friends respectfully.

9) RESPECT MODERATORS: Moderators have a tough job, and none of them enjoy having to stomp out negativity. If a moderator has to weigh in to keep a thread peaceful, please respect that effort and refrain from giving the moderator any grief.

10) If you require official support for any of our products please open a support ticket through the support portal, https://support.precisionmanuals.com

11) This forum is designed primarily as a vehicle for the PMDG development team to interact with our customers, and for customers to interact with one another in a manner that is positive, supportive and assists in the general advancement of understanding the simulation and helping to make this and future simulations better. Any other use of this forum is not permitted, including but not limited to discussion of pricing policies, business practices, forum moderating policies, advertising of non-PMDG products, promotion of events, services or products that are not approved in advance by PMDG or any other topic deemed unacceptable by any forum administrator

12) HAVE FUN: This is the whole point of it all.

[29JUL19] The time has come to shut it down...

    Captains,

At approximately 0500Z/31JUL we will bring down our existing shopping cart for the better part of five days in order to complete the process of moving all of our customer, order data and process history over to the new eCommerce solution that will power PMDG long into the next two decades of our history.

This process started a year ago when we selected the new system (after a six month research process) and hired a data migration specialist who has been working behind the scenes to map out, plan and execute the process of moving. It is a *very* complex process that has been soaking up an inordinate amount of management time at PMDG of late, and we are quite happy to finally have the finish line in sight so that we can return to putting full attention on product development.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE OUTAGE:
So the next 7-10 days might be a bit bumpy and I want to apologize for that in advance. This transition will have no impact on the vast majority of PMDG customers, but in keeping with communicating clear, I wanted to be sure you know the following items:
Planned down-time for PMDG eCommerce will be 0500Z/31JUL - 1700/05AUG. During that period, the following services will be affected:
    • PMDG eCommerce will not be available for new product purchases.
    • PMDG eCommerce not be available for customer account access
    • Downloads will not be available for any PMDG products.
    • Retrieving license keys from your user account will not be possible.
    • Some information/services from pmdg.com and precisionmanuals.com
In summary, if you need something from your user account such as a download, license key or other bit of information, you will not have access to that information until we bring the new system live on/around 05AUG.

The following processes will be unaffected: EVERYTHING ELSE. (Activation, Livery installation, Technical Support, Forum Operations, etc.)

During this operation, we are beginning to switch more of our operations over to the pmdg.com domain so there might be occasional outages as the new domains propagate out but we are retaining access via the long-standing precisionmanuals.com domains so in theory it shouldn't cause any outages...

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE OUTAGE:
When we bring the new system on-line, you will find your purchase history, download links and license keys waiting for you just like they always have. The layout of things will have changed, but most of you are smart enough to follow the cues to get to what you need.

The first time you sign in, you will be forced to create a new password. This is pretty standard stuff when a company moves data to a new system and it will enhance your account security moving forward.

Moving forward there will be two-factor authentication for you to access your user account, which is pretty standard stuff nowadays in online commerce. We are also implementing two factor authentication on the download side but the whole process is quick and easy to work with.

We expect some users will require a bit of assistance with outdated email addresses and the like and for that we point you to our technical support team. They will be able to assist you through the account verification without too much hassle.

    THINGS NOT TO WORRY ABOUT:
PMDG has never stored credit card data, so you needn't worry about anything related to that.
A tremendous amount of time and energy is being invested to ensure that your orders/licenses and accounts are preserved and moved over to the new system. You won't lose anything in the process.

    LOOKING DOWN-RANGE:
This has been an incredibly expensive process both in terms of time and money. The reason we have elected to accomplish this change at this specific moment in history is that our existing solution has failed to keep up with many of the technology changes expected of eCommerce solutions. The really exciting news to PMDG is that our eCommerce system will now be entirely cloud-based, which means that it will be far more resilient during major product release cycles, thus hopefully ending the inevitable couple of hours of server hiccups that always seemed to plague major product releases.

TL;DR Quick Summary: You will not be able to access your PMDG account, make new purchases, download existing purchases or look up license keys between 31JUL19-05AUG19. After 05AUG19 you will need to create a new password to access your account and it's associated data, and then your PMDG life will return to normal.

I'll be back later in the week with some product news!

              Alex,

They were originally going to bring everything up on 3rd August, the day before my birthday. I vetoed the idea, as we released NGX on my birthday and it damned near ruined the experience entirely, some of you may recall.

Really? A fact I never new! Well the date for release of GFO and the NG3 should be released on aviation history dates. Sounds kinda cheesy and would kill lots of us for the suspension that its completed and being waited til release haha

Matthew, it isn’t necessary to quote the whole of the post just to make a joke about the last sentence.

Thanks for the update! What I'm expecting from PMDG before the end of the year:
                          1. 737 Max Expansion released
                          2. 777X Expansion released
                          3. All existing products updated with PBR textures
                          4. GFO version 3.2 released
                          5. Previews of Boeing NMA Base Pack running on P3Dv5 and FS2020.
Anything short of these extremely low expectations and we riot.

                          Thank you!

For instance look at how long it take for products to be release. The next let's say call of duty is already in production that will be released in 2020 yet no one hears about it till 3 to 4 months before release

I understand how that works. I am a software developer myself. I just thought they had already developed it all and were only updating it.

The market system is probably an off the shelf product that is then modified for each customer to present their look and customized features. Then there is the painful process of exporting the old data base to the new system and of course there are all the intricacies of managing the one to many and many to one relational links I'm sure you are familiar with in a relational db. Time required to for the IOC process is very hard to estimate.
