PMDG Forum Rules

1) SIGN YOUR POSTS. Since 1997, we have asked users to sign their real name, first and last, to all posts in the PMDG forum. We do this in order to keep conversations personal and familiar. You took the time to be here, we want to get to know you. This is one of the few rigid rules that we enforce regularly. We do so because we feel that forums in which users must engage one another personally are generally warmer, more collegial and friendly. Posts that are unsigned will be quietly removed without comment by the moderators, so to make your life easy- we recommend enabling your forum signature so that you never need to remember. Do this by clicking the username pull-down at the top right, then selecting "User Settings." You will find the signature editor on the ACCOUNT tab, about half way down the page. Look for "Edit Post Signature." Be sure to click the "Show Signatures" box.

2) BE NICE. We are all simmers here and no matter our differences of opinion, we share a common love of aviation, computing and simulation. Treat everyone else in the forum with respect even when you disagree. If someone frustrates you, walk away from the conversation or ask for a moderator to get involved. Speaking of Moderators, they prefer not to be treated as "The Thought Police" but if any behavior infringes on the enjoyment of another user or is otherwise considered to be unacceptable in the moderator's judgment, it will be addressed in keeping with our view of ensuring that this forum remains a healthy environment for all simmers.

3) BE LAWFUL: Any behavior that infringes upon the law, such as discussion or solicitation of piracy, threats, intimidation or abuse will be handled unsympathetically by the moderators. Threats and intimidation may, at the moderator's discretion, be provided to law enforcement for handling.

4) BE FACTUAL: When you post, always be factual. Moderators will remove posts that are determined not to be factually accurate.

5) RESPECT COPYRIGHTS: Posting of copyrighted material such as flight manuals owned by Boeing or various airlines is not allowed in this forum. If you have questions related to copyrighted material, please contact a forum moderator for clarification.

6) RESPECT PMDG: We love to hear what you like about our products. We also like to hear what you think can be improved, or what isn't working. Please do tell us and we will always treat your feedback with value. Just be sure to treat the team respectfully, as they do put a significant amount of effort into building and maintaining these great simulation products for you.

7) RESPECT PMDG DEVELOPERS: All of the developers will spend some time here. Given the ratio of developers-to-users, it simply isn't possible for us to answer every post and private message individually. Please know that we do try to read everything, but developer workload is simply too high to manage personal contact with tens-of-thousands of users simultaneously. In most cases, members of the development team will stick to conversations in the forum and will not answer private messages.

8) RESPECT OTHER DEVELOPERS: PMDG has always advocated for a strong development community and we have many friends within this community. Every developer offers something unique that helps to make the simming community larger and more vibrant. We insist that you treat our friends respectfully.

9) RESPECT MODERATORS: Moderators have a tough job, and none of them enjoy having to stomp out negativity. If a moderator has to weigh in to keep a thread peaceful, please respect that effort and refrain from giving the moderator any grief.

10) If you require official support for any of our products please open a support ticket through the support portal, https://support.precisionmanuals.com

11) This forum is designed primarily as a vehicle for the PMDG development team to interact with our customers, and for customers to interact with one another in a manner that is positive, supportive and assists in the general advancement of understanding the simulation and helping to make this and future simulations better. Any other use of this forum is not permitted, including but not limited to discussion of pricing policies, business practices, forum moderating policies, advertising of non-PMDG products, promotion of events, services or products that are not approved in advance by PMDG or any other topic deemed unacceptable by any forum administrator

12) HAVE FUN: This is the whole point of it all.

[22NOV21] RSR's interview with JT from SkyBlue Radio.com - For those who didn't catch it live...

    Captains,

On friday night, I was invited to sit in and chat with Jeff at Sky Blue Radio and talk a bit about what is happening at PMDG, within the simming marketplace, etc etc etc.

It is a wide ranging conversation between two guys who know a few things about the simming market and I thought it might be interesting to those who didn't get a chance to hear it in real time.

You can listen to it here.

    Enjoy!

And as an aside: I've done a ton of interviews, between consulting, running for office, running PMDG, etc... and I think this one ranks up near the top in terms of enjoyment for me. It was a conversation between guys on a topic we are interested in. No agenda- just a discussing that went where it went. It was fun- and if you have a chance to tune into JT's show- I recommend you do. He does a great job.

Kendall- I *think* they interviewed me back in.... uhm... 2014 or so... at the National Air and Space Museum's Udvar Hazy Center. We had flown the DC-3 in for public display that day. I am pretty sure it was them... - RSR

And here I sit, being told everywhere that the CEO of PMDG has no idea whats going on, doing everything wrong, doesn‘t care about his customers and that PMDG would vanish within [insert a time of choice]…

      sigh… you can‘t trust anyone these days…

btw Robert, do you EVER sleep?

No he doesn’t sleep. Anything to do with aviation becomes a legal high when it gets in a pilot’s blood and it enables them to stay awake all night. 😵‍💫

I don't normally listen to podcasts but this was so interesting, quite a few things surprised me like how good the MSFS sales are (I knew they were better than ever but not that good), things look good for the future.

      Bring on January! (hopefully)

Also looking forward to GFO, I wonder if everything can be used just by yourself, like you don't share airframes with anyone else?

Rob has mentioned something about the B757 / B767 for p3d and msfs ???
Can someone tell me something because I won't have time to listen to the podcast until the beginning of December thanks to my work

He didn't really confirm anything, just the next aircraft seems it will be developed after the current lineup is in MSFS (currently envisaged to be complete in 2023) and then when they start the hard work for it, they'll decide on the platforms it's releasing for, dependant on the market at the time, basically if P3D is still big enough (no arguments needed as no one knows) then it'll release for P3D, but he mentioned hopefully by that point they can develop for both simulators simultaneously

I just re-listened to the section about the new aircraft and Robert said, "If I had to guess it will be dual platform but providing the market is still there when we get to it"

Great interview. It was interesting to hear the difficult phases that PMDG went through with the downturn in simmers before MSFS 2020 came along. Like the interviewer, I use MSFS very little compared to X-Plane, and I can imaging the PMDG released will change this somewhat. I can predict that while P3D has still a lot of life left, time will tell if usage drops off sharply.

Based on the interview, Looking at a Mid-Late January, Early February Release. 2-3 more Months until we get this beauty. He did state that they could release it now and many people would be pleased, but with their professional level of criteria and attention to detail, it is not ready in their eyes. Personally, I dont mind the wait, it'll be well worth it.

It's not so much the bird itself. I have zibo in Xplane and very happy with it. It's the whole validation that MSFS is ready for the complex airliner and that QOS and T7, the real reason that I am in P3D, are not far behind. And that there is a light at the end of the tunnel for XP flyer like me that my P3D pain and suffering days are coming to an end.

I'd say maybe before January. Maybe. Opinion doesn't matter, however. The fact that the Facebook banner got changed and we're starting to get a lot of talk about it means that we're on a path to have this plane soon-ish!

Matrosov, I too would be very stoked if it released prior to Christmas and a few updates came afterwards to iron out small details, however it does not seem like that will be the case. We will have to wait and see, but regardless, we will have it soon!

So in the interview, Randazzo said the DC6 sales for MSFS outsold the DC6 sales for FSX + P3D + XP within hours: https://youtu.be/qKadQrREujM?t=557.

Wow, the MSFS DC6 outselling all the DC6 sales in FSX + P3D + XP within hours. That is news in itself.

Well, the NGXu also outsold the MD-11's entire lifetime sale in a couple of hours as well. It all shows that many have joined the flight simming community.

Does anybody have any information as to whether the Boeing line of aircraft will come to Xbox? I know the DC6 is coming but there aren’t many digital gauges and other panels in the cockpit so it makes sense that it comes to Xbox, but I’m not too sure about the 737 etc.

I don't really think that's what it shows.

It simply shows that MSFS is massively more popular than any other sim combined, which isn't surprising, really. Bigger market, bigger sales within that market.

Many have joined the flight simulation community as a consequence of MSFS.

Before the arrival of MSFS, the community had been dwindling, not growing.

That's what the sale of the MSFS DC-6 shows. My example was about the NGXu, which is for P3D. That was P3D customers outselling another product within a couple of hours. PMDG hadn't debuted in MSFS yet at that point.

The NGXu is about an aircraft that's massively more popular than the MD-11. Can't make that comparison apples to apples.

Or maybe just that many more people have joined the flight sim community since the MD-11 days, and even more so with the introduction of MSFS2020. Many people liked the MD-11 and some people still beg PMDG on the forum to reintroduce the MD-11, so much that it has become a meme.

If you purchased the NGXu prior to December 31st, 2019, you still get the credit as long as you used the same e-mail to purchase the NG3 as you did the NGXu. Unless the price goes below that, that won't change.

Yep, I would like the answer to that as we bought it under the agreement we would get the full price we paid off the MSFS version. As most people had stopped buying P3D products and were waiting for MSFS, hence the incentive to take up the offer. So now what happens if you charge $60-$70. Do we get a credit off any expansions?
                                    This needs clearing up, please.
Because at that time like many others we had stopped spending any money on P3D. So at that time, the NGXu for P3D had no value at all. Only that we could see what the version will look like come MSFS.

I understand how the discount works, but it was suggested in the podcast that the pricing would be less than what it was originally thought ($130 if I remember correctly). So how will a $99 discount on a $60 product (or whatever it's priced at) work? Will I be getting a check in the mail? 😋

So how will a $99 discount on a $60 product (or whatever it's priced at) work? Will I be getting a check in the mail? 😋
I'm not sure they ever listed a price, so therefore I don't know how much lower they expect it to be. I don't think it would be less than $100, but if it does, that's a different situation that they'll have to deal with.

It would be pretty brazen to say "simmers will be stunned at how far the water line retreats on pricing" and then charge over $100.

It's 100 bucks base right now. MSFS DC6 is 15% less compared to P3D. So it's pretty conceivable they'll knock off anywhere from 10 to 20 bucks on the 738 base Don't think they'll go full 30 percent. on it.

I stayed up a lil' late for this interview! I'm the one to bugger you about the Jetstream Robert, but a man can dream right? Haha, in any case, great interview and looking forward to the NG3!

Bummed out that we're gonna have to wait a little while longer, but quality takes time, and who are we to say no to PMDGs level of accuracy. We'll be waiting!

Just a quick question. Will PMDG ever make Airbus planes??

Based on the interview, if PMDG did an airbus I guess it wouldn't be before 2025/2026, one thing is for certain we will not need any of the A320 family maybe a A340 or A350 if we don't have good renditions by then

BLASPHEMY. . But speculation on my part is that it will be a hard no for them. Doesn't make very much of a business sense. PMDG is the only game in town when it comes to boeings and if MSFS sticks around and doesn't go by the way of MS Flight Boeings will be a huge cash cow for PMDG.. Airbus space is quite a bit more competitive. You have inibuilds that is already working on their MSFS variants you have fenix you have FS labs that will eventually be forced into MSFS as P3D dies off and you have Toliss on XP side that may consider MSFS in a year or three. Plus Fly By wire team that is sticking around and making great strides.
